The Sheraa Trivia Game
How well do you know the leading Startup Ecosystem Player in the UAE?

Why I'm Writing This
Full disclosure: I love Sheraa. As a solo founder in the UAE, I've experienced firsthand what most startup communities miss. Sheraa consistently puts founders and students at the forefront of their programs.
The solo founder journey is often lonesome. You can rent office space, find advisors, approach investors. But you can't easily manufacture a genuine circle of support. That's what Sheraa actually provides, and why their "slow capital" approach matters more than any accelerator metrics.
What is Sheraa?
If you've been exploring the UAE startup scene, you've heard of Sheraa. The typical description sounds like startup ecosystem Mad Libs: "entrepreneurship center," "innovation hub," "ecosystem builder."
Let me save you time: Those terms tell you nothing useful.
The Assumptions You're Making
Most founders hear "Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center" and immediately assume:
- They take equity and run cohort programs (like an accelerator)
- They're bureaucratic and slow (government-backed)
- Solo founders need not apply (team-focused)
- Traditional businesses aren't welcome (tech-only)
But assumptions are just inherited beliefs. Let's get to facts.
What Sheraa Actually Does
Sheraa is Sharjah's government-backed entrepreneurship center, part of the American University of Sharjah ecosystem. They run programs (primarily S3 - Scaling, Securing, Supporting), provide mentorship, workspace, and funding connections.
Here's the interesting part: They don't follow the Silicon Valley accelerator playbook. Which means there usually are no equity requirements, mandatory co-founders requirements, and are against "growth at all costs" methods.
Why? Because their constraint is also their advantage. As a government entity measured on long-term economic impact (as opposed to quick exits) they can support "boring" profitable businesses, solo founders, and regional opportunities without pushing everyone into the VC track.
The Test:
What problem does Sheraa solve that you can't solve yourself?
- Workspace? You can rent office space
- Mentorship? You can find advisors
- Funding? You can approach investors directly
- Network? You can build relationships organically
Sheraa's value is bundling these resources without typical accelerator constraints.
Who Should Care
Perfect for founders who want mentorship without giving up equity, prefer sustainable growth over moonshots, or need regional Middle East expertise.
The real question: Do you need support for slow and steady building, or are you looking for an intense-investment heavy-exponential growth path?
